Shavkat Mirziyoyev meets with UNESCO Director-General in Paris

On March 12, during his state visit to France, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to discuss strengthening Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the agency and the practical preparations for hosting the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand this autumn.

It was highlighted with enthusiasm that the multifaceted partnership between Uzbekistan and UNESCO has reached a high level.

Resolutions initiated by Uzbekistan on access to information and children's education have been adopted.

Uzbekistan has joined the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property. Additionally, Bukhara has been included in the "Creative Cities Network," and a UNESCO department has been established at the Silk Road University in Samarkand. Last year, seven new projects in education, culture, digital technologies, and innovation were launched.

The Turan deserts and Zarafshan-Karakum corridor, silk weaving, pottery, rubab playing, and iftar traditions, as well as historical documents such as the "Bukhara Emir’s Office Archive," the "Turkestan Album," and the "Khudaybergen Devonov Photo Album," have been added to UNESCO’s special lists.

Notably, the upcoming 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand will be the first time in 40 years that the event is held outside the organization's headquarters in Paris. This historic occasion coincides with UNESCO’s 80th anniversary.

Director-General Audrey Azoulay highly praised the productive cooperation with Uzbekistan and expressed gratitude to the country’s leadership for its extensive preparations for the upcoming event.

It was agreed to further expand practical cooperation programs and continue close collaboration in organizing forums and events within the framework of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.
