Uzbekistan and Russia to ease work permit process for migrants

A delegation from Uzbekistan visited Moscow to strengthen labor migration cooperation and address challenges faced by Uzbek workers in Russia. A key outcome was the decision to accelerate discussions on allowing Uzbek citizens planning to work in Russia to obtain their work permits in Uzbekistan.

During meetings with senior officials from the ministries of health, internal and foreign affairs, economic development, science and education, the Federal Labor and Employment Agency, and the Moscow city administration, both sides explored ways to enhance employment opportunities and streamline migration processes.

As a result of the negotiations, several agreements were reached. Notably, the Russian side supported proposals to improve the system for organized employment and professional training of Uzbek citizens intending to work in Russia. Additionally, it was decided to expedite discussions on transferring the work permit issuance process to Uzbekistan.

Furthermore, both sides agreed to continue efforts to legalize the status of Uzbek citizens and create more favorable conditions for their temporary employment. In this regard, the Federal Labor and Employment Agency is working on developing a "single operator" system for the structured recruitment of foreign workers and is considering preferential measures, including the possibility of employers covering work permit costs.

Special attention was given to countering the spread of false and biased information about labor migrants in Russian media.

A forum was also held at the Uzbek Embassy in Moscow, bringing together major Russian employers. During the event, four agreements were signed to facilitate the employment of more than 3,000 Uzbek citizens.
