New cargo terminal opens at Tashkent Airport

A new cargo terminal, UzCargo, with an annual capacity of 120,000 tons, has been launched at Tashkent International Airport. Spanning an area of 5.2 hectares, the complex features a warehouse, refrigerated and freezer storage units, an administrative building, and a parking zone, according to Uzbekistan Airports.

The warehouse covers 8,500 square meters, including 500 square meters of refrigerated and freezer chambers designed for cargo requiring specific temperature conditions. Specialized storage areas have been constructed for plants, live animals, valuable goods, food products, and pharmaceuticals. These dedicated spaces are equipped with thermal sensors to maintain precise temperature settings as needed.

“Currently, the cargo terminal’s buildings and structures, constructed between 1994 and 2000, consist of approximately 20 outdated small- and medium-sized warehouses and administrative facilities, covering a total area of about 3 hectares. The terminal’s actual capacity is limited to 30,000 tons per year. However, in 2024, Tashkent Airport handled nearly 80,000 tons of cargo and mail. The buildings housing the cargo administration and tenants had also become obsolete,” the statement explains.

To enhance operations, the warehouse has been equipped with modern technology from leading global manufacturers, including shelving systems, lifting and transport equipment, packaging machinery, and tools for inventory management, automation, and security. This upgrade is expected to reduce cargo processing times and provide airlines with service quality aligned with international standards.

Additionally, a new three-story administrative building, covering 3,000 square meters, has been constructed for UzCargo staff, employees of related services (customs, veterinary, plant quarantine, etc.), representatives of importing/exporting companies, airlines, customs brokers, and cargo recipients.

UzCargo (Uzbekistan Airports Cargo LLC), a subsidiary of Uzbekistan Airports JSC, was established on November 1, 2022. Built on the foundation of the Tashkent Airport Postal and Cargo Complex, the company offers services such as cargo handling and storage, loading and unloading of goods, and preparation of transport documentation.
