A presidential decree titled "On Additional Measures for the Development of the Micro Hydropower Plant Network in the Regions of the Republic" has been adopted.
According to the decree, the key targets for the development of a micro hydropower plant network across Uzbekistan for 2025–2026 have been set as follows:
- Construction of 2,983 micro hydropower plants with a total capacity of 164 MW, expected to generate 500 million kWh of environmentally friendly electricity annually;
- Supplying electricity to 280,000 people through the commissioning of these new micro HPPs;
- Creating employment for 1,200 workers during the construction phase and establishing 520 permanent jobs once the projects become operational.
By May 1, 2025, land plots selected for micro HPP construction, based on project documentation, will be allocated to the Ministry of Energy in accordance with the established procedures.
The Ministry of Energy will ensure that the allocated land plots are leased to project developers for a period of 20 years for the construction and operation of micro hydropower plants.
Additionally, a special project implementation group will be formed to oversee small and micro hydropower initiatives.
