Namangan mayor demands removal of illegally installed speed cameras

Namangan city mayor Anvar Otakhojaev has officially addressed a letter to Mansur Gaziev, Head of the Namangan Regional Department of Road Safety, stating that fines issued by speed cameras installed in violation of established regulations are causing both financial and moral harm to city residents. According to the mayor, this is leading to growing public discontent.

In the letter dated April 12, 2025, Mayor Otakhojaev asked the head of the regional Road Safety Department to remove illegal radar devices in the area.

The letter states that although the cameras were installed to ensure road traffic safety, the fines issued by them are contributing to public dissatisfaction.

“During meetings and discussion sessions held with the public and youth representatives, concerns have been increasingly raised about the automated photo and video systems installed to detect traffic violations. These fines have led to rising dissatisfaction and, in particular, are giving rise to negative opinions about the governance of the country on social media platforms,” the letter reads.

It further notes that the installation of photo-radar cameras on rooftops and on lighting poles managed by the city and district beautification departments, in violation of established standards, has resulted in material and emotional harm to the residents of Namangan city.

In his letter, the mayor requested that the cameras installed in Namangan city, as well as in Davlatobod and Yangi Namangan districts, in violation of the Cabinet of Ministers’ regulations, be removed from the KAAT (automated traffic enforcement) system. He also asked that fines based on violations recorded by these cameras be discontinued.
