Uzbekistan sees considerable surge in international student enrollment
At the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, the total number of international students studying at higher education institutions in Uzbekistan reached 12,500.
According to data from the National Statistics Committee, this figure is nearly 18 times higher than it was ten years ago.
The number of international students enrolled in Uzbek higher education institutions by year is as follows:
- 2015/2016 academic year: 0.7 thousand
- 2016/2017 academic year: 0.6 thousand
- 2017/2018 academic year: 1.3 thousand
- 2018/2019 academic year: 2.7 thousand
- 2019/2020 academic year: 3.6 thousand
- 2020/2021 academic year: 4.2 thousand
- 2021/2022 academic year: 5.1 thousand
- 2022/2023 academic year: 5.0 thousand
- 2023/2024 academic year: 10.8 thousand
- 2024/2025 academic year: 12.5 thousand
As of 2024, there were 211 higher education institutions operating across the country. These include 112 public universities, 30 foreign institutions, and 69 private universities.
