The national carrier had planned to launch flights to Makhachkala already in the spring of 2022. As Uzbekistan’s General Consul in Rostov-on-Don, Rustam Kurganbaev had mentioned, this would aid in developing the pilgrimage tourism sector.
In March of the same year, Russian airline Red Wings reported that it would begin operating flights between Tashkent and Makhachkala. Flights were conducted on SSJ 100 aircraft twice a week.
