Nasaf FC clinches first championship, defeating Lokomotiv Tashkent in key match
On November 1, Nasaf FC achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first club outside of Tashkent to win the Uzbekistan Super League championship, defeating Lokomotiv Tashkent in a decisive away match. The victory not only secured the title for Nasaf but also ended a 23-year reign of Tashkent clubs in the league.
The match took place at the Friendship Stadium in the Tashkent region, where the atmosphere was electric with Nasaf supporters traveling in nearly ten buses from Kashkadarya to support their team. The fans’ enthusiasm underscored the significance of the championship opportunity at stake.
The pivotal moment in the match occurred in the 35th minute when referee Akhrol Risqullaev unexpectedly sent off Lokomotiv defender Ivan Rogač. This red card gave Nasaf a one-man advantage for the remainder of the game, significantly boosting their chances of victory.
In the 73rd minute, Akmal Mozgovoy scored a stunning goal, breaking the deadlock and ultimately securing a 1-0 win for Nasaf. This crucial victory allowed Nasaf to accumulate 52 points after 23 matches, clinching the championship three rounds before the season's conclusion.
Under the guidance of coach Roziqul Berdiev, Nasaf FC has now made history by claiming the Super League title for the first time. This victory marks a significant shift in the league's landscape, as Tashkent clubs had dominated the championship since 2001, with only Neftchi winning prior to this season. Over the last five years, Pakhtakor had maintained an iron grip on the title, but Nasaf's triumph has redefined the competitive balance in Uzbek football.
With this achievement, Nasaf FC will represent Uzbekistan in the AFC Elite Champions League in 2025 as the national champion, highlighting their newfound status in Asian football.
