Uzbekistan rises in FIFA rankings

According to the updated FIFA world rankings for March 2025, published on FIFA's official website, the Uzbekistan national team has moved up one position to 57th place.

This marks the team’s highest position since 2016, when under the management of Samvel Babayan, Uzbekistan reached 48th place.

Now coached by Timur Kapadze since January this year, the team secured a 1–0 victory over Kyrgyzstan and played to a 2–2 away draw against Iran in the March matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Previously, in the November 2024 qualifiers, Uzbekistan lost 2–3 to Qatar and defeated North Korea 1–0, finishing the year ranked 58th.

Argentina currently tops the FIFA world rankings, followed by Spain, which overtook France to claim second place. The rest of the top ten includes England, Brazil, the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and Germany.

Among Asian teams, Uzbekistan has risen to sixth place. Japan leads the continent at 15th globally, followed by Iran (18), South Korea (23), Australia (26), and Qatar (55). Other top-placed Asian teams include Saudi Arabia (58), Iraq (59), Jordan (62), and the UAE (65).

For reference, Uzbekistan’s best-ever FIFA ranking was 45th, achieved in 2006–2007.
