Yandex Go returns wrongfully charged funds to users in Uzbekistan

The Competition Committee has announced that funds unjustifiably withdrawn from customers through the Yandex Go taxi service have been returned.

The Committee stated it had also received complaints regarding increased fares in public transportation and technical malfunctions in newly purchased vehicles.

In its latest update, the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights shared the measures taken to address ongoing issues in public transportation, taxi services, and the performance of new vehicles.

According to the Committee, recent public complaints have focused on unjustified fare hikes, inconsistencies in online payment systems, and technical faults in newly delivered cars.

In Tashkent, a customer who had been wrongly charged through the Yandex Go service was fully reimbursed, and the incorrect debt listing was removed. A similar incident occurred in Kashkadarya, where a user was charged without justification via the same platform. Following the Committee’s intervention, the money was refunded.

It is worth noting that in December 2023, the Committee officially recognized Yandex Go as a company holding a dominant position in the market.

Further investigations and regulatory oversight have led to the following positive outcomes across various regions:

  • Andijan region (Asaka–Qoratepa route): An inquiry into artificially inflated public transport fares resulted in corrective action and restoration of fair pricing.
  • Samarkand region: A bus driver was strictly warned after being found guilty of rude behavior toward a passenger and charging double fare.
  • Jizzakh region: A technical fault found in a Cherry Tiggo 7 Pro vehicle was resolved under warranty following a customer complaint.
  • Bukhara region (Kogon city): Unjustified fare increases by taxi operators on routes 105 and 114 were addressed, and action was taken against the responsible organization.
