Khiva to host 12th session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers
The popular Turkmen information portal “Salam News” published an article dedicated to the announcement of Khiva as the tourist capital of the Islamic world in 2024.
It noted that the city of Khiva in Uzbekistan, an ancient archaeological city known for its rich history and vibrant culture, will soon welcome a large number of visitors from around the world, especially from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
They will attend the 12th session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers from May 31 to June 2, 2024 under the theme “Developing the Tourism Industry in a Sustainable and Flexible Manner”. In 2024, the city will also host events dedicated to Khiva as the tourist capital of the Islamic world.
“Khiva is one of the most ancient cities in the Khiva region, with a history dating back more than 2,500 years. It is famous for its medieval fortress Ichan-Kala, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1990,” the article says.
It is noted that the upcoming ministerial conference in Khiva seeks to achieve strategic goals in the field of tourism, including the selection of tourist cities of the Islamic world for 2025 and 2026, renewed attention to the development of Islamic tourism, strengthening cooperation between OIC member states in the field of tourism, as well as emphasizing tourism potential of Central Asia, especially Uzbekistan, by achieving an increase in the number of tourists arriving in Uzbekistan and Khiva, which helps strengthen the local economy and cultural exchange.
